Sturgeon River -- Alberta, MI
Of the Sturgeon Rivers in Michigan, only one has carved such a gorge in the earth. There are places where this river runs hard as it travels through Baraga and Houghton counties, emptying into the Keweenaw Bay of Lake Superior. Falls, rapids, canyon walls, and wilderness punctuate its’ flow.
This point is located just south of Alberta on US41. Take a walk down the well worn path and then look back up stream. Canyon Falls is just out of sight to the left, creating the magic of light and dark. A mist from the falling water, ice on branches, and the light of sunrise create the mystery. What we can see has a brilliant glow, while the mystery of what we can’t see draws us into the picture.
